Saudi Pro League: Cristiano Ronaldo and Benzema Shine in Saudi Arabia and European Aspirations
Known for his candid expressions, Cristiano Ronaldo, the leading goal-scorer of 2023, addressed questions about the Saudi Pro League’s caliber as he prepares for the Globe Soccer Awards gala, where he is a prominent figure.
Ronaldo’s response is poised to spark controversy: “Honestly, I believe the Saudi league is on par, if not better, than the French league.”
“In the French league, you have two or three teams performing well, whereas in Arabia, the competition is intense. It’s more competitive, and that’s my perspective, having played there for a year. We’re currently surpassing the French league, and we aim to continue improving.”
What led Ronaldo to choose Saudi Arabia?
After parting ways with Manchester United at the conclusion of the 2022 Qatar World Cup, Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al Nassr. His remarkable performance in 2023 saw him netting 54 goals for the Arab side, outshining notable strikers like Harry Kane, Erling Haaland, and Kylian Mbappe.
Reflecting on his achievement, Ronaldo expressed pride: “Being the top scorer this season, surpassing young talents like Erling Haaland—I’m proud, and I’m approaching 39! I thrive when people doubt me, and then I prove them wrong. Criticism doesn’t faze me.”
Ronaldo’s assertion not only defends his goal tally but also positions the Saudi Pro League as a formidable contender against established European leagues, challenging conventional perceptions.
