Nicoló Barella expressed his satisfaction as Inter enjoyed a dominating 3-0 victory over Lazio, setting the stage for the Supercoppa Italiana Final against Napoli.
The match in Riyadh saw Marcus Thuram open the scoring with a clever back-heel flick from Federico Dimarco, followed by Hakan Calhanoglu converting a penalty. Davide Frattesi completed the counter-attack late in the game, initiated by Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Speaking to Mediaset, Barella remarked, “It was a really great performance, and we enjoyed ourselves on the pitch in a way we had not done for a while. Despite Lazio’s quality and high press, everyone wanted the ball today, and we had fun, which is important. We aimed to be a well-oiled machine from the start of the season, and it took a lot of work to reach this level. We want to maintain this momentum.”
Although Yann Sommer had a relatively quiet game, Ivan Provedel made crucial saves and was twice saved by the woodwork on Barella and Lautaro Martinez efforts.
Reflecting on the missed opportunity to score, Barella said, “Naturally, it would’ve been pleasing to score given the quality of the move, but providing an assist or helping the team is all the same to me.”
Inter advances to face Napoli in the Supercoppa Final, scheduled in Riyadh on Monday at 19:00 GMT. Despite the new Final Four format, the trophy remains contested between the reigning Serie A and Coppa Italia champions.
This also presents an opportunity for the Nerazzurri to secure their third consecutive Supercoppa title. However, Barella emphasized the need to respect Napoli, stating, “Napoli beat Fiorentina 3-0. Despite their recent challenges, they are still the reigning Champions of Italy. We must be cautious, play our game, and continue our current form.”
